Booking and Pricing Questions

The most common questions we hear are about price, deposit, and payment method. Here are the clear answers so you can plan your trip without guesswork.

Economy models start from around EUR 15/day in low season (November to March) and rise to EUR 35/day in peak summer (June to September). Compact SUVs typically run EUR 28-58/day depending on season. All prices include unlimited mileage and basic insurance. Use the booking widget above to see today's live rate for your specific dates.

Yes. We accept debit cards for most vehicle categories. Book without a credit card and pay by debit at pickup - no large pre-authorisation hold on your account. This is one of the main reasons travellers choose us over larger chains that require a credit card block of EUR 300-500.

Airport pickup is the most convenient and our rates there are the same as city pickups. You avoid a taxi or shuttle to collect the vehicle, saving both time and cost. Heraklion Airport (HER) and Chania Airport (CHQ) both have easy meet-and-greet options. For most visitors, airport collection is the smarter choice.

Yes. Weekly Crete car hire attracts a meaningful discount compared to booking day by day - typically 10-20% off the daily rate. Monthly rentals are available for longer stays and are priced on request. Enter your full date range in the booking widget to see the discounted total automatically.

Absolutely. No deposit car rental in Crete is our standard offer for most categories. You confirm the booking online, pay the agreed rental rate, and there is no additional security deposit held or blocked on your card at pickup. Specific premium or luxury vehicles may carry a small refundable deposit - this is flagged clearly before you confirm.

Insurance and Document Requirements

Know exactly what to bring and what cover comes included before you arrive at the pickup desk.

EU and EEA driving licences are accepted as-is - no translation or additional permit needed. Drivers from outside the EU (UK, USA, Australia, Canada, etc.) should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. Your IDP must be issued in your home country before you travel; it cannot be obtained in Greece.

Third-party liability (mandatory by Greek law) is always included. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with an excess is included in the base rate. You can upgrade to fully comprehensive zero-excess cover at checkout. We clearly show what is and is not covered before you confirm - no hidden surcharges at the desk.

Parking fines issued during your rental period are your responsibility. If a fine arrives after you return the vehicle and the authorities charge the registered owner (us), we will pass the exact fine amount to the card used for the rental. There is no admin fee on top for standard fines. Photograph any unclear parking signage before leaving the car.

Bring your valid driving licence, your passport or national ID, and the booking confirmation email. A debit or credit card in the driver's name is required for payment at pickup. Non-EU drivers should also bring their International Driving Permit. That is the full list - no surprises at the counter.

Vehicle Options and Extra Features

Questions about what is in the fleet and what you can add to your booking are very common. Here is what you need to know before you check availability.

Yes. Infant, toddler, and booster seats are available for hire. Request the right size during booking and it will be fitted and ready at pickup. Greek law requires approved child restraints for all children under 135 cm. Book ahead in summer as seats are in high demand from families visiting with young children.

Yes. Automatic transmission vehicles are available across several categories including compact cars, SUVs, and 7-seaters. They are popular and sell out faster in peak season, so book as early as possible if automatic is a firm requirement for your trip.

Portable GPS units can be added at checkout for a small daily fee. However, most travellers find that an offline map app on their phone works just as well on Crete's roads - download a Crete map pack before you fly to avoid roaming data costs on mountain routes where signal can be patchy.

Yes - unlimited mileage is included as standard across the fleet. You can drive from Sitia in the east to Kissamos in the west without worrying about distance limits. The only exception is certain specialist or premium vehicles where a cap may apply, shown clearly at booking.

Driving in Crete - Practical Questions

Local knowledge that saves time, fuel, and stress once you are behind the wheel.

Without question. Crete is 260 km long with no rail network and very limited bus coverage outside the north coast corridor. The places most visitors want to see - Elafonissi beach, the Samaria Gorge, Knossos Palace, Spinalonga island access, the Lasithi plateau - are all much easier with your own vehicle. A rental car in Crete effectively doubles what you can see in a week.

Most town centres have a mix of paid street parking (blue lines, buy a ticket from a nearby machine) and free on-street spaces further from the centre. In Heraklion, the area around Lions Square (Morosini Fountain) and the Old Venetian Port is busy - aim for the municipal car parks on Doukos Beaufort street instead. In Chania, the market-area car parks on Minoos street are practical and reasonably priced.

On the E75 north-coast motorway: 120 km/h. National roads and dual carriageways: 90 km/h. Built-up areas and villages: 50 km/h (sometimes 30 km/h near schools). Mountain and rural roads: follow posted limits, often 50-70 km/h. Speed cameras are active on the motorway between Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos. Fines are issued to the registered vehicle owner, so keep to the limits.

This requires prior written permission and is not covered under the standard rental agreement. Cross-island travel with a rental vehicle typically voids the insurance. If you plan to island-hop, it is safer and simpler to return the car in Crete, take the ferry as a foot passenger, and hire locally on your next island.

A few favourites: drive west to Rethymnon via the old national road for Venetian towns and sea views (1.5 hrs, allow a full day). Head south through the Psiloritis range to Matala beach and its famous caves (about 75 km). Drive east along the coast past Agios Nikolaos to the palm-fringed beach at Vai near Sitia (2.5 hrs one way). Each trip covers roads that are inaccessible by public transport and takes you through scenery that justifies every euro spent on the hire.
