These Booking Terms govern all vehicle rental reservations made through cheapcarrentalscrete.com and apply to all rentals fulfilled in Crete, Region of Crete, Greece. By completing a booking on this website or by using our services, you agree to be bound by these terms in full. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must not proceed with a reservation.

These terms apply to the named lead driver and to any additional drivers declared at the time of booking or at vehicle pickup. They supplement any rental agreement provided by the supplying fleet partner at the point of collection. In the event of a conflict between these terms and the rental agreement presented at pickup, the terms most favourable to the customer under Greek consumer law shall prevail.

Eligibility Requirements for Renting a Vehicle in Crete

Minimum Age

The minimum age to rent a vehicle through this platform is 21 years. Drivers aged 21 to 24 may be subject to a young driver surcharge, which will be shown transparently during the booking process before payment is taken. Premium and large vehicle categories, including SUVs, 7-seaters, and automatic transmission vehicles, may require a minimum age of 25. Specific age thresholds are displayed on each vehicle listing.

Driving Licence Requirements

All drivers must hold a full, valid driving licence issued in their country of residence. The licence must have been held for a minimum of one year at the time of rental. European Union driving licences are accepted without additional documentation. Drivers from countries outside the European Union must present an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their national licence at the point of collection. This requirement applies whether picking up at Heraklion Airport (HER), Chania Airport (CHQ), Heraklion Port, or any hotel or villa delivery point across the island.

Identity Verification

A valid passport or EU national identity card must be presented at vehicle pickup for all drivers. The name on the identity document must match the name on the driving licence and the booking confirmation.

Reservations, Cancellations, and No-Show Policy

Making a Reservation

Reservations are confirmed immediately upon completion of the booking form. A confirmation email is sent to the address provided at checkout. Our platform offers no-deposit booking for the majority of vehicle categories, meaning no payment is taken at the time of reservation. You do not need a credit card to confirm your booking - debit cards and other payment methods are accepted where payment is required.

Free Cancellation

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time are free of charge. To cancel a booking, use the link in your confirmation email or contact us at [email protected]. Cancellations are processed within 24 hours and any prepaid amount is refunded using the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.

Late Cancellations and No-Shows

Cancellations made within 48 hours of the pickup time may incur a late cancellation fee equivalent to one day's rental charge. Customers who do not collect their vehicle and do not notify us (a no-show) may be charged a no-show fee. The exact fee will be stated in the confirmation email and is capped at two days' rental value for standard categories.

Amendments

Booking amendments including date changes, vehicle category upgrades, and pickup location changes (for example, switching from Heraklion Airport to a Chania hotel delivery) are subject to availability. Amendments requested more than 24 hours before pickup are processed at no administrative charge. Changes within 24 hours may incur a small amendment fee.

Pricing, Payment, and Optional Extras

Displayed Prices and Currency

All prices on cheapcarrentalscrete.com are displayed in Euros (EUR) unless otherwise stated. Displayed rates include the base rental charge and standard third-party liability insurance. VAT and applicable Greek taxes are included in the final checkout price. No hidden fees are added after the checkout stage.

What Is Included in the Base Rate

The base rental rate includes unlimited mileage, standard Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with an applicable excess, Theft Protection (TP), and roadside assistance within Crete. Airport pickup and drop-off at Heraklion Airport and Chania Airport are included for most categories. Delivery to Heraklion Port, Elounda, Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos, and other locations across the island may carry a delivery surcharge detailed at checkout.

Optional Extras

The following optional extras can be added during booking or at vehicle collection:

Child seat rental: infant, toddler, and booster seats conforming to EU safety standards
GPS navigation device: pre-loaded with Crete road maps including unpaved routes toward Balos, Elafonissi, and the Lasithi Plateau
Additional driver: additional named drivers may be added for a per-day fee

Fuel Policy

The standard fuel policy is full-to-full. Vehicles are collected with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than at collection, a refuelling charge at the local pump price plus a service fee will be applied. Pre-purchase fuel options may be available at checkout for certain booking lengths.

Permitted and Prohibited Vehicle Use

Lawful Use

The rented vehicle must be used in a lawful manner in accordance with the Greek Highway Code and all applicable traffic regulations in force in the Region of Crete. The vehicle must only be operated on public roads and designated access routes. Drivers are responsible for all traffic fines, tolls, and parking charges incurred during the rental period.

Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited and will void insurance coverage and result in the customer being held fully liable for any damage or loss:

Off-road driving on terrain for which the vehicle is not rated, including unsurfaced tracks not shown on standard maps
Use of the vehicle for racing, driver training, or any competitive motoring event
Subletting, re-renting, or allowing the vehicle to be driven by anyone not named on the rental agreement
Operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs driving ability
Transporting the vehicle on a ferry or crossing to any island other than Crete without prior written consent
Using the vehicle for commercial transportation of passengers or goods
Towing another vehicle or trailer unless explicitly authorised in writing

Insurance, CDW Excess, and Liability

Basic Coverage Included

All rentals include standard Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP) as required under Greek law. Third-party liability insurance is included to the statutory minimum limits set by Greek motor insurance regulations. Basic Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) is included for the driver in most categories.

CDW Excess Amounts

Despite CDW coverage, customers remain liable for damage or theft up to the excess amount specified in their rental agreement. Excess amounts vary by vehicle category and are displayed clearly during checkout. Typical excess amounts range from EUR 300 for economy vehicles to EUR 900 for premium SUV and 7-seater categories.

Full Coverage Upgrade

Customers may purchase a full coverage upgrade (Super CDW or Zero Excess) either during the booking process or at vehicle collection. This upgrade reduces the customer's excess liability to zero for most damage scenarios, excluding damage caused by deliberate acts, prohibited use, or driving under the influence.

Exclusions

Insurance coverage does not extend to damage to tyres, wheels, the undercarriage, the roof, glass, mirrors, or the vehicle interior caused by negligence. Damage resulting from prohibited vehicle use, as described in the previous section, is excluded from all coverage levels. In such cases, the customer is liable for the full cost of repair or vehicle replacement.

Limitation of Liability

cheapcarrentalscrete.com acts as a booking intermediary and is not the direct vehicle rental supplier. Our liability is limited to the accurate representation of rental offers and the transmission of booking confirmations. We are not liable for vehicle defects, mechanical failures, acts of the supplying fleet partner, road conditions, weather events, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control including strikes, natural disasters, or government-imposed travel restrictions affecting Crete or Greece more broadly.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Greek and EU consumer protection law, our total aggregate liability to any customer arising from a booking made through this platform shall not exceed the total amount paid by that customer for the booking in question. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Booking Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Hellenic Republic (Greece). Any dispute arising from or related to these terms or to a booking made through cheapcarrentalscrete.com shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Heraklion, Crete, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence entitle you to bring proceedings in your local court.
